GPU Benchmark (WIP)
Tested across 2 platforms where possible.
Things tested:
Quake III Arena
Deus Ex too cpu limited
3DMark 2000
Maybe:
Incoming (windows + osx)
SiN (windows + os9):
Copier le fichier “rocket.dm2” dans “\base\demos”, activer console ( “²”), taper “disconnect”, puis “timedemo 1” puis “map rocket.dm2”
Methodology
Try to have a somewhat realistic but repeatable way of benchmarking ideally cross platform games.
Quake III Arena
Simple as, timedemo 1
in console, run demo. Use point release 130 so it matches Mac OS 9.
3DMark 2000
32-bit color, 24-bit depth, Hardware T&L
Test at:
800x600
1600x1200
Hardware
One Wintel and one PowerPC roughly equivalent in specs.
The Windows 98 PC:
- Pentium 3 1.4GHz
- Intel D815EPFV Motherboard
- 512MB SDR RAM
nVIDIA Driver 45.23
The Mac
- 1.8 GHz G4
- “Digital Audio” Logic Board
- 1GB SDR RAM
- 120GB SSD

Not appropriate
Deus Ex (too cpu limited, basically every result is the same, other than using the newer opengl library which has visual bugs)
Enable console, edit User.ini
and set:
Tilde=Talk
Now Shift+Tilde will open the console (delete the “Say” it auto inserts).
Benchmark method:
1) Start new game on easy.
2) Talk to Paul, skip dialogue.
3) Once Paul is done, save the game.
4) Open console and timedemo 1
5) Load the save file
6) Run to UNATCO HQ
7) Front gate is the finish line, timedemo 0
then screenshot the results.
32-bit Color, max settings. D3D with UseVSync=True
which ironically turns vsync off (thanks Unreal Engine, janky as always).
TODO: Detail textures off?
