For Windows 95, 98, Me, NT 4.0 and 2000:

For Windows 3.1, Macintosh and UNIX
Try Internet Explorer 5 instead

Internet Explorer 5.5 provides the latest updates and security fixes to the Internet Explorer technology. It can be installed as an upgrade to existing versions of Internet Explorer or on computers with no previous Internet Explorer installation. With improved support for DHTML and CSS, Web architects will appreciate the greater control over browser appearance and behavior.

It's never been easier to get online, find the information you need, and just do stuff faster.

Underrated and Overhated?

Did you know IE5.5 has (slightly) better web standards support than Internet Explorer 6 and 7?

A lot of the bad reputation that IE gained over the years was mostly due to the poor standards support in IE6. The stagnation of any new features and improvements until Firefox arrived didn't help either.

My Windows 98 systems run much more stable on IE5.5 than IE6, possibly due to how IE is integrated into the Windows Shell. Looking at old and new websites is slightly more reliable.

Why not give IE5.5 a go? You might be as surprised as I was!
